Greetings all,
I would just like to take a brief moment and extended our best wishes to BRC members representing our chapter in the 2012 Armbruster. The Big Rivers Chapter will be well represented by some outstanding handlers and even more impressive dogs. We wish all members the best of luck and as always, thank you for putting the time and dedication into your DD for this wonderful event.
Best of luck,
Christopher Fender

Spring 2012 Update
Greetings All
Spring has hit a month early in most places within the Big Rivers Chapter. Our testing season is over, and annual meeting is right upon us. I wanted to give you a short update so that y’all would have an idea what’s going on within the chapter.
Our testing season went very well with all three of our VJPs this year in new locations with tests in Carthage, MO, Sulphur Springs, TX, and Pittsburgh, KS. I want to say thank you to the Test Coordinators and also the Test Directors for taking these projects on and doing a fantastic job. All puppies did well for the most part. We still must work hard to get our handlers to expose their dogs through the fall hunting season prior to the VJP testing season. As we look forward to the fall, I anticipate we’ll have a very busy HZP and VGP testing season. Please contact your state chairman to encourage them to have as many training days as possible in order to have our dog prepared for both of these tests.
I also want to thank Fred Turjan for taking the time to come to our annual meeting in Shreveport to put on a VGP Seminar. Our motto for our chapter regardless of your DD’s age is: We train for the VGP. What’s your goal for training your young pup? Start immediately by preparing and exposing your dog to the training subjects for the VGP and your DD will be able to roll through the tests on its way to becoming a finished utility dog.
I also want to thank the people who have donated to BRC for both our Annual meeting and of course the Armbruster. When we have such wonderful donors who support what we’re doing this enables us to make advances in our efforts to train and develop handlers and promote the DD. I’m forever grateful for the contributions that you’ve made to the chapter. We couldn’t do what we’ve done without you.
This is an election year for the Chapter and GNA. Please be involved in this process. This is your breed, so your voice is important. We face important issues both on the Chapter and Group level as we go forward. I would like to thank Chad Crissup for his years of service as the BRC Vice-Chairman. He has many demands with his young family and business that takes the priority of his time now more than ever. Our new officers will be selected and are ready to serve your needs.
Let’s work together to breed, train, test and hunt the best versatile dog in the world, the Deutsch-Drahthaar.

Greetings All
We are working down to the very end of our hunting seasons within BRC. Testing season is upon us. Here are some other things of note.
Recent Events
Paul Belding
About 2 weeks ago, the land owner of our VJP test grounds in in Weatherford TX passed away after a short illness. I did speak to Mr. Belding while he was in the hospital and he knew his condition was grave. Even at that point in his illness, he was supportive and appreciative of BRC and tried to support us going forward without him. Mr. Belding has been a good friend to the BRC over the years by allowing us to host numerous training and testing events on and near his property. I did speak to his wife and expressed our condolences. She was very appreciative.
2012 Pheasant Fest in Kansas City MO
Last weekend BRC, led by Dan Fisher and Trinity Muth along with Jim Wion and many others, hosted the VDD-GNA booth at the Pheasant Fest. The turnout of volunteers was very good and the event attendance was through the roof. I want to thank Dan and his team for all of the hard work pulling this thing off. I believe an event like this can create incredible momentum in that area of our chapter for years to come. Dan is writing an article for the website and the GNA newsletter. Please thank those that were there when you see them and give them a pat on the back for a job well done. They represented BRC and VDD-GNA very well.
Coming Events
Chapter Training Days
Please attend local training days around you. We have one scheduled for N TX on March 3 at the Brown’s ranch. Please confirm your attendance with Zane. We will be doing VJP and VGP training primarily. Other states are having days so contact your local state chairperson.
Testing Days
We have 7 days of full tests this year for our VJPs. We will need to plan more next year. If you need to enter a test this spring contact Jim Wion or myself for help locating a test for you. Please plan on supporting a test close to you. We will need all hands possible to beat for bunnies and transport folks. Someone did this for you so please return the favor. Contact the TCs at the nearest test locations to lend a hand.
BRC Annual Meeting April 13-15 in Shreveport LA
Please plan on attending this chapter event. Our highlight will be the VGP Seminar presented by Fred Turjan. Fred has a proven track record of being a successful breeder and supporting his puppy buyers to complete their testing through the VGP level. He has as many VGP dogs out of his kennnel as any current breeder in GNA except for our own Jack Mansfield. We will have classroom and field time in small groups with Fred and other trainers going over the training and test prep for you and your DD to pass the VGP. This is for all of you with dogs from 8 weeks to 8 years. Thank you Fred for committing to join us as we become more skilled trainers and handlers on the VGP level.
We will also have a Breed Show. Please get in touch with Kevin Sherrodd immediately if you wish to attend. There are many steps to complete in order to attend. There is no time to waste if you want to attend this event.
We also will have Chapter Elections for all officers. We operate on a 3 year election cycle that mirrors the election cycle that we have for election of our VDD-GNA officers. Please nominate anyone that you feel could effectively serve our BRC membership. I will forward you names of those nominated at a later date. If you have any interest in a position but need more information please feel free to contact me.
We will also have a Banquet and Auction as well as our Annual Meeting. Please look for the complete schedule of events in the upcoming weeks. Please contact Dan Brown if you have an item to donate for the auction. This is always a fun time for us to kick back and enjoy watching who has an itch to spend some hard earned cash.
Thanks for you commitment to the DD and the Big Rivers Chapter.
See you at an event or the BRC Annual Meeting soon.

BRC Chairman
Greetings All
We are in the midst of final details in putting together the 2011 Armbruster, that the BRC is hosting in Shreveport Louisiana. It is
an exciting time for our chapter and could not be done without lots of volunteer help. We anticipate an exciting test, wonderful social
time and a very enjoyable conclusion to a great deal of work. It’s a great celebration for the Deutsch-Drahthaar breed and GNA
members in North America . We are proud be hosting this year’s event.
Additionally, we are preparing for our fall tests and scheduling spring tests for 2012. Please check the BRC website for schedule
postings. While it’s important to finish out our testing season, I’m really looking forward to enjoying the fall hunting season. This is
the payoff we all look forward to with our DDs.
In closing, Id like to again say thanks to Cal Bambrough, our Test Director and the rest of the Armbruster Committee. We all
owe them a lot for their sacrifice and generous CAN DO attitude. I would like to particularly thank John Odom, as my co-test
coordinator for the Armbruster, because he continually rose above and beyond the call of duty to make this event happen. In addition
to the rest of the committee, Dan Brown, Zane Brown, Kevin Sherrodd, Chad Crissup and Jim Wion, many thanks from
the bottom of my heart for your hard work and sacrifice. This event is special to me because of our friendships and how well
you represent the Big Rivers Chapter. We are indebted to you all.
Happy hunting season.

Greetings All
I hope your summer has been going well, and your DD training for the Fall is ahead of schedule. We have been very busy this summer, and I wanted to share some of the highlights.
Armbruster 2011 Preparations
The planning is done except for a few final details. Our Test Director, Cal Bambrough (UT), has been busy getting the test sites approved and the judges lined up. This is going to be a wonderful event for the handlers, judges and guests. We do plan a spicy “Louisiana experience” to make this event fun and memorable. Make plans to attend and volunteer if possible.
The Armbruster committee is very busy working on different parts leading up to the event. The Browns (TX) will be handling the program and ad sales. Expect to hear from Zane and Dan soon. Chad Crissup (OK) is coordinating the volunteers, and Kevin Sherrodd (TX) is gathering items for the prize table and auction. John Odom (LA) is busy with the final planning for some great Louisiana food and fun for our social events. All of these tasks are huge, so please support these men as they work to make this event special, particularly for the handlers.
Armbruster Headquarters Hotel Change
We will move to the La Quinta Airport in Shreveport for our host hotel site. We had some unforeseen problems with the other site, and we were able to negotiate a much better situation at the La Quinta. The room rate is $70/night with no pet fee and a continental breakfast each morning. Please make your reservations as soon as possible. The cutoff date is 28.09.11 for our room block. We can not guarantee rates past that date. Please refer to the notice in this NL to get the correct toll free number and block contact name. We are pleased to join with La Quinta for this and many other BRC events in the future.
Fall Testing
We have scheduled both HZP and VGP tests in addition to our Armbruster. Please contact your state chairman to attend training days this summer to ensure your dog is test and hunt ready. Please refer to the GNA and BRC website for more information.
BRC Website Upgrade
Please take time to check out the upgrades made to the BRC website. We are indebted to Tracie Moore for getting our original site developed and hosted for several years. Recently we exceeded our bandwidth, so Zane Brown (TX) and Sean Hicks (TX) conferred and crafted an upgrade to accommodate the new content. Please go to www.vddgnabrc.org to see the site. Thanks Zane and Sean for taking care of this project.
New State Chairman
We have had some turnover with our State Chairpersons in North Texas and Missouri. Our long time friend Jeff McDaniel (TX) has stepped aside due to growing family demands. It is impossible to replace Jeff, but we are going to try with Zane Brown assuming his duties for the North Texas folks. In addition, Dan Fisher has stolen the reins of the Missouri State Chairman’s job from Jim Wion. Jim hated to give up the responsibility, but it was time. He is busy. Dan has hit the ground running and will be very effective for us on the “Yankee” end of our chapter. Thanks Jeff and Jim for your dedicated service. Zane and Dan, please let us know how to assist you in your efforts ahead.
I have to go. I have my big Armbruster checklist as well. As you can tell BRC is active and growing. Please let me or any Board member know how to help you have a significant experience developing your DD. We are glad you are a part of the Big Rivers Chapter.
